It's Monday! What are you reading?

It's Monday! What are you reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. It's Monday! What are you reading? - from Picture Books to YA is a kid lit focused meme just like the original and is hosted weekly by Jen at Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee at Unleashing Readers. The purpose is the same: to recap what you have read/reviewed and plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. Twitter: #IMWAYR

It's been exactly two weeks since I last posted anything on this blog. I have been down and out since then with the flu (and yes, I had a flu shot). How bad is this year's flu? I actually had two days when I thought I wasn't going to pull through, I was so sick. On a more pleasant note, however, I did have a nice dream that my Kiddo came home from San Francisco to NYC and did all my laundry. When I told her about the dream, she laughed and said she would have done that for me if I really needed her to. What a great kid!

If the flu comes calling at your house, here are some of our favorite sick day picture books that might help you through:

I didn't read as much as I would have liked but I read a few things, including
The Book of Boy by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
2018, Greenwillow, 208 pages
Right now, I am reading
Without Refuge by Jane Mitchell
2018, Carolrhoda Books, 288 pages

I have a whole slew of books to review that have been sitting only desk for the last few weeks, and I hope to get to them soon. I'm still very tired all the time, but I'm a big believer in the idea that slow and steady wins the race and that's how I am approaching things right now.

Stay healthy, safe and warm!!

  1. So sorry you have been out with the flu. So many people have been getting it this year. I am glad you are on the mend though. Hope you are back to your usual self soon. :)

I have read the Llama Llama book- but the rest are new to me. Thanks for sharing.

  2. We loved the Llama Llama and his Mama series. My youngest loved the rhyming. I hope you get well soon.

  3. I just spoke with my brother last night who also has had the flu, his wife, too & they also had had the shots. I'm so sorry that you were "struck". What a bad season it's been for it. I'm glad you're back on the mend, and sharing too. How fun that you found some books about being ill! I love Amos McGee & the Mr. Putter and Tabby books. And I have The Book of Boy on my list, and will put Without Refuge on too! Thanks, Alex!

  4. So sorry you are sick. I also had my shots and touch wood, haven't caught it so far. I've been fighting a sinus infection instead. Grrr! The Book of Boy looks interesting.
    Hope you are better soon.

  5. Aww, I love how your reading matched how you were feeling. Glad to hear that you're feeling a wee bit alright now. :)

  6. I heard that they guessed wrong a bit with the shots, so the most common strain isn't the one in the vaccines. I'm glad you are feeling better!

  7. I'm so sorry you've been ill! Ugh. But how cute that you shared good books to read while you're sick. So sweet! The Book of Boy sounds very interesting -- especially the setting time period! Hope you're feeling much better. Have a wonderful reading week!

  8. Sorry you were sick. I think I'll get a couple of the sick day books.
