📚 It's Monday! What are you reading? 📚

It's Monday! What are you reading? - from picture books to YA is a kidlit meme
hosted weekly by Jen at Teacher Mentor Texts and Kellee at
Unleashing Readers. The purpose is to recap what you have read and/or
reviewed and to plan out you reading and reviews for the upcoming week. Twitter: #IMWAYR

Read and To Be Reviewed:
I read and enjoyed three very different middle grade novels, which I hope to review soon.

Read and Reviewed:
Chester Nez and the Unbreakable Code: A Navajo Code Talker's Story by Joseph Bruchac, illustrated by Liz Amini-Holmes, and

You Go First by Erin Entrada Kelly, last year's Newbery Award winning author for Hello, Universe

Now reading:
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
This book is spellbinding!

  2. Just put the Chester Nez book on hold from my library. Each one of the books you've shared is on my to-read list, Alex. Someday, soon? Thanks for reminding about them.

  3. I still have not read The Boy, The Bird and The Coffin Maker, so I'm adding that one to my list. I really enjoyed listening to Children of Blood and Bone as an audio book because Bahni Turpin was the narrator and her accent was amazing and she did all the voices perfectly. All those unique words and the language were pronounced beautifully! Thanks for sharing, Alex. Have a wonderful reading week!

    1. Thought I'd return to say, per your comments on my blog last week, I did finish Aru Shah and briefly discussed it in my #imwayr post yesterday. Like you, I really struggled to get into the book. After about page 50, I ended up starting the audiobook and then went back and forth between reading and listening for the remainder of the book. I think it just felt like the humor, sarcasm, and asides overshadowed the story line, at times, slowing the momentum down. But I did finish and will wait and see how the initial reviews pan out on book #2 before I decide to continue with the series. Hope you're having a great week, Alex! ~Shaye

  4. The cover of Class Action makes me think of a book called Homework Strike. It sounds like it is about a subject that will appeal to kids.

  5. I haven't read any of these, but Ricki is raving about Children as well, and I want to read one of Kelly's books since she's won the Newbery now.

    Happy reading this week :)

  6. Chester Nez looks perfect for our upcoming reading theme - sadly we don't have it in our library (cries). Glad to read so many positive reviews of Tomi Adeyemi's novel. :)
